A remarkable organ. |
It makes up 15-20% of your weight. Like liver filters your blood, skin filters your environment. It also works as our radiator to keep us cool. Sponge-like, your skin absorbs substances on and around it – both good and bad.
The job of skin is to filter harmful substances before they enter your bloodstream. Skin is your immune system’s first line of defense; the armor that protects you from your environment. Unfortunately, as hard as it works to protect us, most take it for granted. With such an important role in your health, and given today’s environment; why wouldn't’t you put only healthy natural ingredients on your skin? Remember, what goes on your skin, goes in your body. |

There is Good News... |
"my husband calls it
miracle cream."
Leonora M., Ireland |

You are making new skin right now! |
| |
Your body replaces its skin about every 30 days. Right now between the outer layer of skin (epidermis) and the under-lying layer (dermis) you are making new skin cells. These new skin cells will make their way to the surface to replace the existing outer layer. |
| |
| Larson's takes advantage of this remarkable process. |
Our unique and proprietary formula allows natural penetrating oils to carry healing nutrients deep into the skin. Larson’s creams and lotions were developed to penetrate the outer layers of skin and carry healing nutrients to the newly forming skin cells. The new skin that forms is enriched and healthier. You can see it, you can feel it.
By applying Larson’s to your severe problem areas, you not only get immediate relief from dryness, pain, and itching, you also get the long lasting benefit of growing softer, healthier skin. |

| Cracked Skin |
| Always remember, cracked skin is dead. Nothing can bring it back. |
| Cracks happen at the weakest areas of dry skin, usually on areas of stress such as knuckles, finger tips, and heels. When a crack appears, it is painfully stressed by the tension from surrounding skin. As the dry cracked skin becomes dead skin, it rises and shrinks away creating a hard surface. When pressure is applied to the hardened dead skin (bumping a finger or stepping on your heels), the pressure pushes directly into the tender underlying layers of skin and nerve endings. That pressure is what causes the pain. |
| |
How to Care for Cracked Skin: |
| |
| Remove the Dead Skin |
Raised dead skin is best removed from the fingertips and knuckles with a small nail clippers. Keep one in your purse or pocket. Raised skin on heels is hard to reach and is best removed carefully with a pedicurist type razor found in most beauty supply stores. Moderate areas can be removed with a callous file or pumice stone. This is called “Exfoliating” the skin; which means to remove a thin layer. |
| Moisturize the Area |
Soften the skin in and around the crack. When the surrounding areas are moisturized it reduces stress-tension on the cracked area. For immediate relief on targeted areas, use our Cracked Skin Cream for this step. The thick consistency fills cracks with natural moisturizers, gives immediate pain relief, and contains anti-septic to help prevent infection on open areas. Our Cracked Skin Cream was created to penetrate beyond the upper layer of skin, carrying nutrients to the new skin cells being formed, and assuring your new skin is healthy. Apply at least twice daily until cracks are healed. When cracks are healed apply once per day to maintain healthy skin cell growth and maintenance. |

| Protect Your Skin |

Use natural sun block or cover. Many Dermatologists believe the sun is number one on the damage factor list. The Skin Cancer Foundation states “The sun is responsible for over 90 percent of all skin cancers“. The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2007, there will be 8,110 fatalities, 5,220 in men and 2,800 in women in the U.S.. Melanoma, although not the most common of skin cancers, is the most serious form. Fortunately it is almost 100% curable if detected early. Symptoms? Moles; If you have over 100 or any that appear unusual, consider being checked by a physician. |
| Keep it Clean |
This sounds simple enough, but is it? Have you been paying attention to what is going on and in your skin? Sun block, bug spray, laundry detergents and typical lotions or creams. Have you looked at what’s in them? You also need to keep your skin clean, dying skin cells will attract bacteria leading to an odor that’s unpleasant to say the least. Your skin works hard to protect you – keep it clean! |
| Moisturize Internally |
Your body needs water. Lots of it. Drinking coffee, tea, soda and “energy drinks” are not what your body was made to run on. Many are diuretics and actually cause the body to lose moisture. Lets be honest; you’re probably not going to give up your morning coffee or tea but remember to include water throughout your day, every day. Everything else – in moderation. |
| You Are What You Eat |
Your skin is not only your bodies largest organ, it’s the first line of defense against harsh outside elements. Look around you; exhaust, air pollution, cleaning chemicals, soaps, sun. Throw in damage like alcohol, smoking, or tanning booths. Your skin is the armor that protects you from your surroundings. It filters out the bad stuff to protect what’s inside your body. Doesn’t it deserve to be taken care of? A healthy diet with plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits is something your whole body needs. Its not that hard to eat healthy -and well worth the effort. |

| Dry Skin |
| Your Skin Turns to Dust. |
| Everyday you lose 2-3 billion skin cells. Where do they go? They turn to dust. Dry, chalky, itchy dust. Harsh weather makes it worse. Dry skin is caused by factors beyond environment too. The fact of the matter is you have it – and you want to get rid of it. Here are a few really helpful tips. |
| |
| Moisturize |

Internally: Drink plenty of water. Coffee, sodas and energy drinks are not what your body is intended to run on. Take care of your body now – it is never too late to start.
Externally: Use our Heavy Duty Lotion - it’ll make your skin feel new again. One of the best times to moisturize is after towel drying from a shower or bath; the pores are open and the skin is relaxed. One application of our lotion will keep your skin feeling great all day. For extra smooth skin apply before going to bed too.
Facially: After a morning shower, before going to bed, or before applying make-up. Massage a small amount of our Cracked Skin Cream into your face. Pay particular attention to areas that have, or are beginning to show signs of age. The CSC feels smooth and creamy when applied, while invigorating you with the aromas of cinnamon and tea tree oils. If you have sensitive skin you’ll be happy to know our hypo-allergenic products fully absorb and won’t clog your pores. What better place than your face to have healthy skin? |

| Eczema |
| You may also know Eczema as Dermatitis. Severity of symptoms range from skin that is dry, hot and itchy; to broken raw and bleeding. What’s worse – there is no known cure. There is some good news:
Eczema is not contagious, and there are a few things you can do about it: |
| |
| Look for Reactions |
Eczema flare ups can be triggered by allergic reactions to food, soaps, fabrics and animal hair to name a few. Finding and avoiding the problems will help |
| Avoid Skin Care Products That Coat Or Shield The Skin |
Look for products that are Hypo-allergenic and contain ingredients like witch hazel and tea tree oils that will stop the itching. |
| Relax |
Stress at home, work or school might also be contributing to the problem. Try to do something that is relaxing everyday. Try exercising, walking, playing music or reading a book. |
| Use Sterolyns |
Synthetic Steroids are often prescribed for eczema. Larson’s contains Shea Butter, a plant based natural steroid loaded with vitamins A and E. Shea Butter helps heal cracked, aged, and damaged skin. Synthetic steroids can only be safely used for short periods of time, they have many harmful side effects and as many eczema sufferers can tell you - they’re expensive. |

Apply at least twice daily until flare-ups are healed. When flare-ups disappear apply Heavy Duty Lotion once per day to maintain healthy skin cell growth |
| Wear Cotton |
Cotton clothes are your best bet. Avoid wool or other rough fabrics which may irritate your skin. |
| Don't Scratch that Itch |
Try to avoid scratching, besides giving you that leathery texture, scratching can lead to open skin allowing bacteria to enter your system and cause infection. Keeping your dry areas moisturized will help stop the itching. Added specifically to soothe Eczema, Larson’s contains Organic Neem Oil, an ancient oil from India that fights infection. Neem Oil serves as an anti-bacterial, antiseptic, and more. |

Winona's Story: " My daughter (age 4) had severe chapping on the backs of her hands. They were so red and inflamed that my husband and I initially thought she had been burned. We used everything on her hands, from antibiotic creams to pure vitamin E oil. After a week, there was no improvement at all. In fact, her hands were cracked and bleeding. We tried Larson's Cracked Skin Cream and within hours her hands improved dramatically. After 3 applications of the cream, the redness had all but disappeared and the pain was completely alleviated. My husband and I were stunned! Now we are all using the cream on our hands, and I am putting it on my son's eczema. "
- Rita A., Mother, Southern California |
| Parent Tip: After bath, try applying Larson's Cracked Skin Cream to inflamed areas, then immediately applying cool, damp cloth-towels over top for cooling relief to itching and stinging. |

| Natural Rubber Latex (NRL) Allergies |
Just a Little Problem? Hardly!
If you have an allergy to Natural Rubber Latex (NRL), you’re not alone. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) nearly 1 in 5 share your allergy. Up to 25% of lost time from work cases involve diseases of the skin and the estimated health care cost exceeds one billion dollars per year! |
" ...my hands are always cracked and dry. When I get home I can't wait to put Larson's on. One application makes them feel brand new."
John T., Corona, California |
How serious is NRL allergy? Very.
There are essentially 3 types of reactions that OSHA has identified:
“Use of natural rubber products may result in several varieties of reactions. These reactions include irritant and several types of allergic reactions. They can vary from localized redness and rash to nasal, sinus, and eye symptoms to asthmatic manifestations including cough, wheeze, shortness of breath, and chest tightness; and rarely, systemic reactions with swelling of the face, lips, and airways that may progress rapidly to shock and, potentially, death.” |
Who’s at Risk? Anyone required to handle rubber goods or wear rubber gloves.
Health Care Workers
Electrical Lineman
Food handlers
Rubber goods workers
Tire handlers
There is no way to tell who is going to become allergic or how severe the reactions will be. Repeated exposure to NRL will make the problem progressively worse. |
"...It's the best lotion I have ever used. "
Montry S., Dentist |
What Causes the Allergic Reaction?
Natural rubber contains proteins - allergic reactions are caused by the wearer absorbing the proteins into the skin. You also ingest these proteins by breathing in particles of the powder used to make gloves easier to wear. The allergy comes from contact to natural rubber latex and unfortunately gets worse as contact continues. |
Some Lotions Can Make it Worse!
Many contain petroleum or mineral oils – including the “old Standby” brands such as: Vaseline, Bag Balm, and SBS-40. OSHA has made a ruling regarding the use of hand creams or lotions that contain petroleum and/or mineral oils. OSHA notes …
“During the rulemaking process, it was brought to OSHA's attention that significant deterioration of latex gloves was noted when exposed to petroleum-based lubricants. (See 56 Federal Register 64119, December 6, 1991.) Therefore, if latex gloves are used, employees shall not apply petroleum-based, including mineral oil based, skin care products.”
Latex and Natural Rubber are two different things – right? Wrong.
Natural rubber/Latex is made from the liquid of the Hevea Brasiliensis tree grown primarily in the Southern Asia. The liquid is a milky white fluid harvested by scoring into the Latex ducts of the Hevea tree similar to the way maple sap is harvested in North America. This liquid is either left to harden into “cup lump” or, if Latex is desired a stabilizer such as ammonia is added. The hardened “cup lump” is used to make hard rubber goods and the Latex is used to make things like gloves. It all comes from the same tree. |
" Nothing I have ever used lasts like Larson's. It keeps my skin moist and I don't have to keep applying it all day."
Robert W., Nevada Power Lineman |
| Symptoms. Cause. Cure. |
What You Can Do About Rubber Glove Allergy:
The first thing recommended is to take care of your skin! Having open wounds only compound the problem as OSHA noted:
“Irritant contact dermatitis presents as dried, cracked, split skin. Although irritant contact dermatitis is not in itself an allergic reaction, the breaking of the intact skin barrier due to these lesions may afford a pathway for latex proteins to gain access, and thus promote development of allergy.” |
| |
Irritant Contact Dermatitis: |
| |
Symptoms/Signs: Scaling, drying, cracking of skin. |
| Cause: Direct skin irritation by gloves, powder, soap/detergents and incomplete hand drying. |
| |
Prevention/Management: Get medical diagnosis, avoid irritant product, consider using cotton glove liners, consider alternative gloves*/products. We recommend Cracked Skin Cream used morning and night to heal scaling and cracking followed by using as needed to maintain healthy skin. |
| |
Allergic Contact Dermatitis (Type IV): |
" I originally bought the lotion for my husband. He is a firefighter and has rough dry hands. After seeing the results your lotion had on his hands, I decided to try it...My skin has never been softer..."
Niki S. Firefighter's Wife, Rancho Cucomonga, California |
| |
Symptoms/Signs: Blistering, itching, crusting (similar to poison ivy/oak reaction). |
| |
Cause: Accelerators and processing chemicals, insecticides. Consider penetration of glove barrier by chemicals. (Check your hand cream for chemicals and petroleum or mineral oils – all damage rubber) |
| |
Prevention/Management: Obtain medical diagnosis, identify chemical. Consider the use of cotton glove liners. Try our Cracked Skin Cream used morning and night or as needed to stop itching and heal blisters. Maintain healthy skin with daily use of our Heavy Duty Lotion used after shower or bath. |
| |
Type I - Immediate Hypersensitivity: |
| |
Symptoms/Signs: Localized red, itching welts and blisters sometimes called “nettle rash” or “hives”, urticaria, rhinitis, wheezing, swelling of the mouth, shortness of breath and it can progress to anaphylactic shock. |
| |
Cause: Latex/Natural Rubber proteins. The proteins enter through your skin or through your lungs. Proteins enter your lungs by attaching to the powder in your glove – when you remove your glove you breathe in tiny particles of the powder. |
| |
Prevention/Management:
First: Take care of your skin! Do not allow your skin to be opened by cracks, cuts or blisters. We recommend our Cracked Skin Cream to heal damaged skin followed by daily maintenance with our Heavy Duty Lotion.
Second: Obtain medical diagnosis, allergy consultation. Try synthetic or low protein gloves* and gloves without powder. Use cotton liners under areas exposed to contact with rubber |
| And Finally... |
Don’t inhale the powder!
*Electrical workers note: It’s unlikely that you will find synthetic gloves above Class 0 (1,000 volts). Try to use cotton as a barrier between you and the rubber, i.e. shirts, glove liners etc. If you must use rubber gloves, remove them as often and for as long as possible and be extremely careful about breathing the powder. Another concern is sweat; protein is carried with sweat so rinse off of your skin as soon as possible after removing gloves. |
